Mestre Omar was born in 1957 in Salvador da Bahia, where he had his first contacts with capoeira while playing on the street. When he was twelf years of age he started training with Mestre Ezequiel at the Escola de Capoeira Mestre Bimba”. Further training and education he had at the “Escola de Arte e Dança” in Bahia. In 1985 he travelled to Switzerland and founded the first capoeiragroup in Basel. In 1994 he founded Grupo de Capoeira União.
