About Mestre Itapoan
In 1980 he founded the Associação Brasileira dos Professores de Capoeira (ABPC) of which he is the president. His nickname refers to the district where he until today still lives. He is also a dentist. He wrote a number of books (Bimba, Perfil do Mestre, Mestre Atenilo, o Relampago da Capoeira Regional, Bibliografia Critica da Capoeira and A Saga do Mestre Bimba).
